Introduction The Paleolithic Age (up to 10,000 BC) of human evolution is characterized by the ability to use stone tools and a primitive society centered around small groups or bands. The humans of this age were hunter-gatherers and lived in primitive accommodation such as caves and rock-shelters. In more ways than one, these ancestors of ours were directly dealing with the (perceived) whims of nature. The paintings at Bhimbetka The tools of this age have been found by archeologists after considerable efforts and excavations. Their life-accounts, however, have been preserved in the form of paintings and murals which have survived to this date. Shanti At The Sanchi Stupa

Introduction Sanchi - located about 40km North-East of Bhopal - is a site of immense importance for the Buddhist sect in India. The main attraction here is a simple hemispherical stupa from the Ashokan era that houses the relics of the venerable Buddha himself. Scattered around this monument are about 50 other monuments of varied significance - temples, monasteries, pillars - all associated with the Buddhist sect. The Sanchi Stupa In line with its immense cultural significance it has been conferred the status as a UNESCO World Heritage Monument. -x-x-x- Getting In Sanchi is best approached from the city of Bhopal.
